Vacant Buildings
Owners of vacant buildings are required to register them with the Village to prevent negative impacts on neighboring properties and help prepare these buildings for occupancy. Owners must show proof of liability insurance, submit to a thorough interior inspection and in some cases submit a plan for re-occupancy.
A vacant building is generally:
- Unoccupied and unsecured; or
- Unoccupied and secured for more than three (3) months; or
- Unoccupied for over six (6) months; or
- Declared unsafe for occupancy by the Village.

How to register
To register a vacant building, please fill out the Vacant Building Registration form below and submit it along with the registration fee it to propertyissues@oak-park.us.
