Make Real Change, Not Spare Change
The Village of Oak Park is proud to launch the "Make Real Change, Not Spare Change" campaign—an initiative dedicated to fostering a safer, more compassionate, and resourceful community. This campaign is designed to support local businesses, educate the public, and promote long-term solutions to address homelessness while enhancing public safety and coordinating community resources.
The Goal
Our aim is to shift the narrative around panhandling by encouraging meaningful and impactful ways to support those in need. By focusing on sustainable solutions and collaborative efforts, we seek to:
- Educate the community about homelessness and the resources available to address it.
- Engage local businesses and residents in supporting strategic solutions.
- Empower those experiencing homelessness with access to coordinated care and services.
Why "Real Change" Matters
While giving spare change to panhandlers may feel like a compassionate act, it often does not address the root causes of homelessness or provide lasting support. Through this campaign, we offer high-impact donation options as an alternative to direct giving. These donations go to trusted local organizations and programs that deliver sustainable outcomes, ensuring our collective efforts make a real difference.
Join Us
Together, we can create a community where everyone has the opportunity to flourish. Let’s transform our compassion into action and ensure that every dollar we give contributes to meaningful change.
