The Village and its Building Code Advisory Commission are seeking to update the 2024 International Property Maintenance Code (IPMC) from the current 2009 version of the IPMC with minor amendments in the near future. The IPMC is published by the International Code Council (ICC). It establishes standard guidance to local governments regulating the minimum maintenance requirements for existing buildings to ensure property upkeep and public safety throughout the community.
The proposed adoption of the 2024 IPMC is part of the Village’s overall effort to update its building codes and improve code enforcement processes. The International Building Code (IBC) covers new construction and major rehabilitation of all property types. Adopting the 2024 IPMC would align with the IBC ensuring consistency and compatibility with updated versions.
The inclusion of sustainability measures, such as energy-efficient building systems and waste management practices, supports eco-friendly initiatives, making neighborhoods more environmentally conscious.
Updated property maintenance standards create cleaner, more visually appealing business districts, encouraging investors and customers which helps local economies thrive. Using the latest codes improves the overall quality of housing stock, making properties more desirable and promoting long-term investments.
