On Saturday, April 5, the Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney’s Office charged Jabari McGee with first-degree murder in connection with the death of Corey Gates in Oak Park in the early morning on April 4. McGee is 20 years old and a resident of Chicago.
At approximately 1:23 a.m. on April 4, the Oak Park Police Department responded to multiple calls for shots fired in the 600 block of South Blvd. Upon arrival, officers found Gates lying unresponsive in the street. He was transported by firefighter/paramedics to Loyola Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased at 2:00 a.m. Gates was 54-years old and a resident of South Holland, Ill.
Six subjects, including McGee, were detained by the Oak Park Police Department on Friday morning. Three juvenile suspects were released without charge on Friday. The charge for McGee was approved on Saturday. Two other adult offenders were also released Saturday without charge. McGee is being held for a bond hearing.
The investigation is still active and ongoing at this time.
