The Oak Park Police Department, along with other law enforcement agencies, is warning residents about an ongoing scam that is attempting to defraud victims by having them provide sensitive financial information.
The Oak Park Police Department has recently received several reports from residents indicating that they have received a telephone call from someone impersonating a sergeant or other member of the department’s command staff. The caller has demanded immediate payment in order to avoid being arrested for a citation received or a warrant issued. In some cases, the fraudulent caller has not immediately asked for payment, but rather requested that the recipient of the call comes to the police station for signature verification. These acts are a scam.
No one should ever provide payment or other financial information over the phone to the police department. An investigation into these activities is ongoing.
If you receive a phone call like this, please report the encounter immediately to the Oak Park Police Department by calling the non-emergency number at 708.386.3800. Visit the link below for additional crime prevention tips and resources.
