The Oak Park Public Health Department is responsible for assessing the health of the community, identifying threats to the community's health, and developing and implementing prevention-based programming, including education, policy, services and campaigns. The Public Health Department was founded in 1905 and became a certified local health department in 1947. 

The Public Health Department consists of the following divisions:

To provide services to prepare and respond to commnity health needs; prevent injuries, communicable and chronic diseases; to create equitable systems that promote health for the community; and protect the residents and employees in the VIllage through public health services and education.
