Climate Ready Energy Grants

The Village's Climate Ready Energy Grants program is designed to provide financial assistance for residents to support a range of energy upgrades and retrofits. If you made upgrades in 2025 to your home that improved energy efficiency or electrified gas appliances, you may be eligible for grant funding.

What is an eligible project?

Home energy audit or assessment

  • Some residents may be eligible for FREE assessments from ComEd or NicorThose households not eligible for a free assessment may use their ComEd or Nicor self-led assessments to meet the assessment requirement.

  • Homeowners may be eligible for a tax credit of up to $150. Visit IRS.gov for more information.


Weatherization measures

Measures such as insulation, weather stripping and air sealing are eligible for reimbursement through a Climate Ready Energy Grant.


Energy efficient windows and/or doors

  • Homeowners may be eligible for a tax credit of up to $250 per door and $600 for windows. Visit IRS.gov for more information.


Energy-efficient lighting

Energy-efficient lighting, including automatic light sensors or timed light sensors, is eligbile for reimbursement through a Climate Ready Energy Grant. All outdoor lighting must meet International Dark Sky principles.


Electring heating, venting and air conditioning (HVAC)

Electric HVAC upgrades, such as heat pump installation and thermostat upgrades, are eligible for reimbursement through a Climate Ready Energy Grant.

  • Incentive up to $1,400 are available from ComEd.

  • Homeowners may be eligible for a tax credit of up to $2,000. Visit IRS.gov for more information.


Replacement of gas water heaters with electric

  • Homeowners may be eligible for a tax credit of up to $2,000. Visit IRS.gov for more information.

Upgrade of electrical panels

Upgrading electrical panels to support electrification measures is eligible for reimbursement through a Climate Ready Energy Grant.

  • Homeowners may be eligible for a tax credit of up to $600. Learn more at EnergyStar.gov.

Renewable energy systems and/or battery storage

  • Homeowners may be eligible for a tax credit of up to 30% the cost of the system. Visit IRS.gov for more information.

  • Residents below 80% AMI may be eligible for no or low upfront costs for on-site solar through the Illinois Solar for All Program.

  • Residents between 80-120% of AMI may be eligible for installed photovoltaic systems at no cost from Cook County. More information is at www.cookcountyil.gov/sunandsave.

     

     

Who is eligible?

  • Households with an income below 80% AMI are eligible for a Village grant up to $10,000. The total value of the grant is not to exceed $10,000 or the total cost of the installations, whichever is less. (Eligible homeowners may also be eligible for a CDBG energy efficiency grant, ComEd’s Whole Home Electric program, the Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program (IHWAP), and Illinois Solar for All.)

  • Households with an income between 80% and 120% AMI are eligible for a grant of up to $5,000 not to exceed 50% of the total cost of the installations.

  • Households with an income of 121% AMI or higher are eligible for a grant of up to $1,000 not to exceed 50% of the cost of installations.
