Tuesday, October 25, 2022  ::   Village Manager Kevin Jackson announced today that Shatonya Johnson has been appointed as Oak Park Chief of Police, following a comprehensive national search. Johnson is the first female to hold the position of Police Chief.
Saturday, October 22, 2022  ::   Hours for Halloween trick or treating in the Village are 4 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31. Parents are encouraged to accompany young children, especially after dark, and inspect all treats.
Tuesday, October 18, 2022  ::   The Village of Oak Park has extended its electricity aggregation contract with Chicago-based MC Squared Energy Services, LLC (mc2) through December 2025. The contract ensures aggregation participants will never pay more than those customers whose electricity is supplied by ComEd.
Thursday, October 13, 2022  ::   Oak Park Police are responding to an incident involving an individual in distress on the 1100 block of N. Harlem Ave. Officers initially responded shortly after 11 a.m. to reports of an individual armed and barricaded in his apartment. As of 6 p.m., the Oak Park Police Department and the Cook County Sherriff’s Office remain on the scene working to resolve the situation.
Thursday, October 6, 2022  ::   Cory J. Wesley, an Oak Park resident involved with a number of community organizations, has been selected to fill the remainder of the term of former Village Trustee Arti Walker-Peddakotla, who recently resigned. The Village Board will vote on Wesley appointment next Monday.
Thursday, October 6, 2022  ::   Dan Yopchick will join the Village as the Chief Communications Officer effective Monday, Oct. 10, Village Manager Kevin Jackson announced today. Yopchick has worked in communications for more than 15 years.
Thursday, October 6, 2022  ::   The Oak Park Village Board of Trustees will soon return to in-person meetings at Village Hall for the first time in more than two years. As was the case prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Village Board meetings will be open to the public, but now a hybrid option will also be available via Zoom.
Friday, September 30, 2022  ::   Plans for Dom’s Kitchen and Market to occupy the vacant office space at 1144 Lake St. are not moving forward, the Village has learned. According to officials involved in the lease discussions, Dom’s determined after completing detailed space plans that the two-story space did not work for its hybrid grocery concept.
Wednesday, September 21, 2022  ::   Oak Park Police responded at around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday to reports of shots fired in the vicinity of Ridgeland Avenue and Ontario Street. According to witnesses, a gray sedan was stopped in the westbound lane of Ontario at Ridgeland when the driver of a white sedan pulled up alongside, leaned out the window and began firing in the direction of the gray sedan.
