While self-testing for COVID-19 is convenient, the Oak Park Health Department urges residents who test positive using a self-test to confirm the results at an official testing site such as a pharmacy, physician’s office, public health department or school.
In addition to verifying the result, an official confirmation test allows local health officials to monitor spread in the community and serves as a reference point per quarantine rules that anyone in close contact of someone who tests positive does not need to quarantine if they themselves were diagnosed with COVID-19 within 90 days.
Testing remains critically important to reducing the spread of COVID-19.
Health officials say if you have symptoms or have had a known exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19, you should be tested regardless of your vaccination status.
