Robbery & Theft Prevention Tips
Sept. 26, 2023 - Below is a statement from Oak Park Chief of Police Shatonya Johnson:
“In the early-morning hours of Sun., Sept. 24, Oak Park, particularly the north section of the community, saw a string of criminal activity between approximately 3 – 6 a.m. The incidents included four armed robberies, one aggravated vehicular hijacking and one aggravated assault that police also believe to be an attempted armed robbery. These incidents appear to be related to a series of armed robberies that have recently occurred in Chicago. I assure everyone that the Oak Park Police Department, in partnership with the Chicago Police Department, is actively investigating these events as we remain wholly committed to ensuring the safety of our residents and visitors at all times.
There have been no serious injuries reported in connection with this flurry of activity over the weekend, yet we are aware of the related and growing concern among Oak Parkers. Please know that the police are diligently working to address these concerns and ultimately apprehend the individuals who are responsible for these acts.
The wellbeing of our residents remains our top priority. We are increasing our patrol in the area and collaborating with other law enforcement agencies. Additionally, the Oak Park Police Department relies upon cooperation with the community to maintain this Village as a safe environment to live, work and play. Your vigilance is a crucial component to that equation.
