Sept. 21, 2017 – A detective commander with 23 years of experience with the Oak Park Police Department has been named Deputy Chief.
LaDon Reynolds, who joined the Oak Park Police Department in September of 1994, will be officially sworn in at 6 p.m., Mon., Sept. 25 in the Council Chamber at Village Hall, 123 Madison St.
“I am pleased to announce this important promotion from within the ranks of the Oak Park Police Department,” said Village Manager Cara Pavlicek. “Having someone of Commander Reynolds’ experience and knowledge already serving within the Department made this decision an easy one. He knows the community, the department and the challenges we face, and will be an important addition to the Department’s leadership team.”
Calling Reynolds a police officer’s police officer, Oak Park Police Chief Anthony Ambrose said, “It will be an honor to pin the stars of a deputy chief on the shoulders of Commander Reynolds. He has served with distinction since joining the force as a patrol officer. I am pleased to have played a role in helping him achieve this new level in his career.”
Reynolds’ current duties include managing the Investigations Division of the Police Department, which includes Evidence Technicians, School Resource Officers, Juvenile Officers, Detectives and task force officers assigned to the FBI and the DEA.
He also serves as the Police public information officer and manages the Department’s response-to-resistance programs, including initiatives to train officers in the use of less-than-lethal methods to diffuse potentially deadly situations.
“Reaching this level of command within the Department where I have built my career is a life ambition realized,” Reynolds said. “Chief Ambrose has always demonstrated his trust in my abilities and potential. With this promotion, he has taken that support to an entirely different level. With his help, I will work to apply my years of experience working with the citizens of Oak Park and the men and women on the force to provide the level of leadership and professionalism they expect and deserve.”
Reynold’s experience and skills have not gone unnoticed by others in the law enforcement. In addition to his Oak Park Police duties, he is an adjunct professor in the Criminal Justice Administration program at Triton College where he teaches courses in Law Enforcement Administration and Police Community Relations.
He also is an instructor for Western Illinois University’s campus security training program and an instructor for Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board Executive Institute, where he teaches modules on diversity, cultural awareness and community policing.
Reynolds holds a Master of Science degree in Education and Bachelor of Science degree in Administration of Justice from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He also is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the Senior Management Institute for Police, the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board Executive Institute, and the Community Leadership Program at Dominican University’s Brennan School of Business
He joins Deputy Chief Frank Limon on the Department’s senior command staff. As Deputy Chief, Reynolds will oversee the Patrol Division, which includes all of the men and women in uniform who police the community day to day.
