May 31, 2018 - With warmer weather comes construction season as officials take advantage of ideal conditions during spring and summer months to make various infrastructure improvements around the Village.
The most high-profile project on the horizon will repair and replace deteriorating water and sewer mains and resurface the roadway along sections of North Boulevard and South Boulevard between Marion Street and Oak Park Avenue. Work is scheduled to begin June 11 and continue into the fall.
North Boulevard will be closed to through traffic between Forest Avenue and Kenilworth Avenue for much of the project to accommodate water and sewer main replacement. The underpass at Clinton Avenue beneath the CTA Green Line will also require full closure for long stretches as water and sewer main is replaced.
Work on South Boulevard will consist of minor sewer repairs followed by lighting improvements, sidewalk repairs and street resurfacing between Marion Street and Home Avenue. Traffic will remain open during the project with only intermittent street parking closures.
The road surface along North Boulevard will also be reconstructed and restriped to Oak Park Avenue to accommodate a new bike lane upon completion of the utility work.
Residents and businesses impacted by the construction on North Boulevard and South Boulevard can get regular updates about the project at www.oak-park.us/boulevards.
Elsewhere in the community, construction is nearly complete on Fillmore Street as crews wrap up the final phase of a pipeline project that spanned the length of the Village to carry Lake Michigan water west through Oak Park.
Other construction initiatives planned for this summer include the resurfacing of nearly four total miles of roadway at various locations throughout the Village. Work is also underway on the reconstruction of 25 alley segments, with eight of those segments already complete.
An interactive map displaying all construction projects planned for 2018 and scheduled through 2021 is available at www.oak-park.us/construction. The page also includes regular project updates and a map showing how the condition of each alley in the Village is rated and prioritized.
