May 25, 2023 -- All are invited to "Move with the Mayor" and join Village of Oak Park President Vicki Scaman at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 3 in attending an African dance class at Village Hall. The free event, open to all ages, will take place on the south lawn at Village Hall (123 Madison St.). In the event of inclement weather, the session will move indoors at Village Hall to room 101.
The African dance class will be taught to Oak Parkers by Donna Callender, Artistic Director of local youth dance group Kuumba Kids. Kuumba Kids is a diverse and inclusive dance company whose mission is to utilize dance, song and music as an educational tool to bring awareness and knowledge of the African Diaspora while inspring self-confidence, development, discipline and respect for everyone.
Move with the Mayor is a national initiative that works with leaders across the country to challenge their communities to be more physically active. Mayors encourage their communities to be phyiscally active to lower their chances of heart disease and its risk factors like high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes.
Oak Park's Move with the Mayor event is free for adults and children of all ages, but interested attendees are encouraged to RSVP. Please click here to RSVP.
