May 7, 2018 – The Taxing Body Efficiency Task Force is seeking public input as it develops recommendations to identify cost efficiencies in the public services provided by the local governments that rely on Oak Park property taxes as a major source of funding.
Created by the Village Board in February, the ad hoc citizen advisory body is charged with addressing concerns about rising property taxes, which officials say threaten the community’s values of affordability and diversity.
Over the next several weeks, the Task Force will pose specific questions and seek taxpayer comments at www.oak-park.us/taxefficiencycomments. The questions and tentative schedule for commenting are as follows:
- Through May 13: How have property tax levels in Oak Park impacted you?
- May 14 – 20: What are strengths and weaknesses of the services your local government currently provides?
- May 21 – 27: What are examples of duplicative or redundant services of local governments in Oak Park?
- May 28 – June 3: What are the opportunities for coordination or consolidation between local governing bodies in Oak Park?
- June 4 – 10: What other communities offer good alternative approaches to local government services?
- June 11 – 17: Overall, what ideas do you have to improve services or lower costs?
The mission of the Task Force is to identify, review, evaluate and develop recommendations related specifically to Elementary School District 97, Oak Park Public Library, Oak Park Township, Park District of Oak Park and Village of Oak Park.
The Task Force is charged with providing a final written report to the Board of Trustees of its findings and recommendations by August 20 and then be dissolved upon the submission of the report.
Task Force members, all Oak Park residents, were appointed by the Mayor/Village President with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees.
More information on the Task Force, including biographies of its members, meeting agendas and related information, is posted on the Village website at www.oak-park.us/taxtaskforce.
