Aug. 22, 2013 - A shooting at about 10:15 a.m. today in an alley near the 1200 block of North Austin Boulevard appears to be a gang-related incident that spilled over from Chicago into Oak Park.
Police say the victim, a 26-year-old Chicago man, said he had been in Oak Park visiting a friend who lives on the 1200 block of North Austin.
After leaving the apartment building where he was visiting and preparing to cross Austin back into the city, the victim said he recognized two men on the Chicago side. He said he retreated back into the alley in Oak Park where he was confronted by a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt who shot him in the abdomen at close range with a handgun.
The victim was transported to Loyola Hospital in Maywood where he was treated and released.
The investigation is continuing. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
